Background information :-
Madeleine Forsyth has lived in North Yorkshire all her life and
has been actively involved in mixed veterinary practice for 25
years. She first worked as a veterinary surgeon in Thirsk, before
establishing her own mixed rural practice in Helmsley in 1983.
She has recently retired from clinical practice and is currently
training to become a barrister. She has acted as an expert
witness for over 20 years, and her experience covers a wide
range of veterinary disciplines.

Since 1979 she has acted as Consultant to racecourses, including
Beverley, Thirsk, Catterick, Redcar and Doncaster - providing
casualty cover - and as a Veterinary Officer to the Jockey Club.

Whilst practising in Hemsley, her client base, situated within the
North York Moors, included a significant number of hunts, shooting
syndicates and gamekeepers - which has led to her evidence being
heard in Court in cases related to the Badgers Act, Protection of
Animals Act, RSPCA prosecutions as well as the defence of similar

She has gained experience of regulatory matters through working
as a Local Veterinary Inspector ('LVI') for DEFRA and as an Official
Veterinary Surgeon ('OVS') for the Meat Hygiene Service. She has
held contracts to provide veterinary service in meat plants in Northern
England and has 24 years’ experience of meat hygiene work.

Trained in the legal aspects of report writing, giving evidence
in court and in the responsibilities of a Single Joint Expert.
