Maggie Sargent is a nursing care expert who in the last 15
years has received some 2,000 expert witness instructions
to evaluate care for litigation purposes. She has 7 associates,
who cover cases involving brain-injury, orthopaedic and general
body injury, damage at birth, and mesotheslioma, as well as
professional negligence liability. In these fields they liaise with
medical experts, occupational therapists, and architects.
In addition to personal injury litigation work the team is also
involved in case managing clients who have a wide range
of nursing and care needs, and can provide costs of case
management reports.

Maggie Sargent is a Registered General Nurse and trained
at St Thomas's Hospital in London, where she worked from
1976 until 1981. She provided a recruitment service for nurses
and carers, both in the UK and overseas from 1981 until 1987.
In 1988 she established the UK's largest nursing and social care
agency, IHG Community Services, and was Nursing Director and
then Managing Director of this company. She was responsible for
setting up the first partnership agency service between a Health
Authority and a private nursing care agency providing private
community practice.

Maggie Sargent has cared for patients both in hospitals and
in the community and is now employed as Nurse Adviser
for IHG Community Services. She is also a member of the UK
Homecare Association and the Nursing Agency Administrators'
Forum at the Royal College of Nursing and is Nursing Adviser
on the advisory board for Headway National. She is a member
of the Brain Injury Case Management Steering Group for clients
who have suffered traumatic brain injury and has undertaken
consultancy projects for insurance companies, private hospitals,
statutory services and voluntary organisations, looking at the
specific care needs of individuals and organising care regimes

She is currently a director of a national care consultancy, which
among other services offers case management services for
patients with profound disability. In 1997 she established a
local nursing service for the community, funded by charitable
donations, which provides nursing care within a patient's home.
She also lectures at seminars across the country on costs of
care in both the public and private sectors. She provides reports
for both claimants and defendants (60% / 40% split) and has
given oral evidence in the High Court in 54 cases since 1985.
She has received some 100 joint instructions since January 1999,
has been instructed by the CICA and has also given evidence
for a number of judicial reviews. She has prepared 2,000+ reports
for both claimants and defendants since 1985. She combines
preparing reports with case-managing clients in the Midlands area
and is part of a community rehabilitation project which provides
therapy, care and general rehabilitation - finding this current
experience invaluable in making assessments of costs of care.
